Boogie Nights

No trance part 2 yet; this post is going to have a disco/new disco bent. House music started out essentially as disco that was accidentally sped up, so this is a bit of a throw back to the beginning of a lot of electronic music. That said, only one song in the post is actual disco; the rest are from the new wave of disco-y house music that's been coming out of late. Interesting fact: the reason almost all disco songs have that shh-shh-shh hi-hat bit is because somebody figured out that those really high frequencies are attenuated when you're on cocaine. Learn something new everyday.

Also, holler at Greece, yet another new country for the blog.

My genre of the day: Nu-Disco

Hold On - Holy Ghost!
Holy Ghost! comes from DFA, the label out of Brooklyn with some good disco-tinged artists on their list (and some completely different ones like LCD Soundsystem). This song has a funky beat, a piano bit that feels a bit disco, and a wobbly synth that adds the kick.

Slip Away (Steve Angello & The Young Punx Remix) - Howard Jones & Mohito
Even more from the Swedish House Mafia, this is admittedly more of a house song than anything else. But, it does have that happy disco feel to it.

You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real) - Sylvester
Actual disco finally. This has all the main bits of a disco song: the strings, funky bass, piano riff, old-school synths, and, of course, the hi-hat. That and it's probably the best disco song ever made by a transvestite. I mean what? Oh and Surkin likes it too. Note: Ignore the first and last 10 seconds of the YouTube video.

Young Folks (Punks Jump Up Special Disco Mix) - Peter, Bjorn & John feat. Victoria Bergsman
The super popular alternative song with a disco remix. Not all too different, the remix has a funkier bass and a new beat.

And, a song with nothing to do with disco:

Put It On You - Missy Elliot feat. Pharell and Teyana Taylor
This is the newest leak off of Missy's new album. Starts off with a straight up B-more sound with the pumping kicks, but drops into the more melodic jazzy feel you expect from Pharell (about a minute in). The pig latin rhymes aren't great, but luckily there aren't many of them.

NEXT POST: Most likely trance part 2. And, one of the new Gorillaz demos.
