Trance. I don't even know where to start. Trance was my first inroad to electronic music and is definitely one of my favorite types. This post is going to look kind of like a Know Your Genre post, and I guess it is, but this is definitely only part one. If you guys end up liking it, holler at me and let me know, because I probably know more about trance than any other genre. All the songs are pretty popular, but I thought they would serve as a decent starting point; ideally, I'll move on to slightly lesser known stuff in the future parts. Just a bit of a warning: all trance songs have long-ish intros.

Also, holler at the UK and Tunisia, two more countries this blog has hit. Update: Switzerland and Spain too.

What you need to be listening to:

ATB and Paul van Dyk Mix
A good short mix (only 12 minutes: short for a mix) that was given to me years ago by my Russian friend (holler) and jumpstarted my interest in trance and electronic music. It has ATB's 9PM followed by his Dont Stop, the For Love remix of Paul van Dyk's Words, and then Another Way by PvD. All solid songs in their own right. I like ATB, but I have to say I love Paul van Dyk (pic above); I've seen him in concert in NYC a couple of times and each time was nuts. He's also one of the good guys in the industry and does a ton of good things for the world (charity programs and what not). More of him to come I'm guessing. Note: I was really surprised to find a YouTube of this.

A pretty popular song and one that really embodies good vocal trance. A classic for sure.

One of my favorite songs ever. Has a catchy riff, a great bass drop, and an incredible bassline. Pretty much set for any club night.

Twilight - Adam K & Soha
Pure trance at its best and a good example of where trance is going. Melodic, laid back and with a great riff. Can't really ask for more. The YouTube video is shorter than the download, but I figured I'd get straight to the good part.

Children (Dream Version) - Robert Miles
Super popular trance classic. Probably one of the most beautiful piano riffs in electronic music, there was no way I could do a bit on trance without putting this up.
