Guess Who's Back

Sorry for the delay: It's been a while, but I wanted to make sure that when I came back I would be able to keep this blog in the green. On that note, I am going to try a couple of new things. First, download links will be up at the top of the bit about a song as the title without the word download next to them. I will also be discriminating about what songs I put up in the hopes that whole posts don't get taken down. That said, I will still post YouTube links for all songs, even if I don't feel I can put up the download. Still, I hope that the majority of the songs I put up will be downloadable. Posting will probably be a little less frequent too.

In short, I'm back.

Oh and as for the count of how many different countries visited, it kind of blew up so I stopped counting. Tight.

My genre of the day (for no real reason): Electroclash

What you need to be listening to:

Whoa. Snoop Dogg jumps into Dubstep by laying down his flow over Eastern Jam by drums 'n' bass duo Chase & Status (check out Against All Odds from them: see Barney Rubble, Mar. post). Rap over dubstep by drums 'n' bass guys? Oh, and it has the girl from Slumdog Millionaire singing too. Kind of a crazy mix up there, but Snoop's flow does fit well with the tune with a darker feel. Hear it for yourself.
Snoop Dogg Millionaire - YouTube

I'm Not Alone (Deadmau5 Remix) - Calvin Harris
The original is one of my favorite songs of the year and Deadmau5 always does solid work, so this seemed like a no-brainer. Much more laid back feeling than the original, it goes on at a relaxed pace.
I'm Not Alone - YouTube

And...

She's So Fly (I'm So High) - Grind Mode
No way I could get away with posting a download for this. This is just a great party hip-hop song that I liked a lot when I heard, for whatever reason.

Also, I just dropped a new song, 3mm. It's a quick bit I threw together that uses a sample from The Whispers' And The Beat Goes On.
Check it out/download here: Onlydjbpm

Barney Rubble

Rubble? Trouble? Get it? Moving on, this post is going to have a little bit of an urban vibe. Also, sorry for not putting up brand-spanking new songs lately (with the exception of the new Calvin Harris which will be put up in this post too), but my music crawls of late haven't really turned up anything great. That said, all of the songs included in the post are relatively new. UPDATE: I just realized this post is a little longer than most, no worries.

Also, after the mishap with the last post, I'm going to try to back up all my posts (so it hopefully won't be such a pain to find all the old links). And subscribe by e-mail, become a follower, or drop comments. Holler at support.

My genre of the day: Grime

What you need to be listening to:

Dance Wiv Me (feat. Calvin Harris and Chrome) - Dizzee Rascal
Dizzee Rascal's (see pic) signature Grime flow over a Calvin Harris beat. A party track, if not quite a club tune.
Dance Wiv Me - YouTube
Dance Wiv Me - Download

Thrilla - Villians
So not really all that urban, but a remix of Thriller, electro-style. Came to me by way of a mass e-mail for a party (holler?).
Thrilla - YouTube
Thrilla - Download

Against All Odds (feat. Kano) - Chase & Status
Chase & Status are actually a drums 'n' bass duo, but this track has a funky, fast hip-hop feel to it. Kano (another Grime mainstay) drops the fitting rhymes. I've included the official video as the YouTube link because it's a cool video, but you do have to wait about 40 seconds until the actual song drops in.

Embrace The Martian - Crookers
Kid Cudi actually lays it down on this Crookers track. If you liked Day 'N' Nite from the Kid (or the Crookers remix: see More T-Pain... post in Feb.), you'll probably like this.
Embrace The Martian - YouTube
Embrace The Martian - Download

Green Light (Remix) - Rick Ross
Pretty much the same as the original from Andre 3000, but with Rick Ross rapping in the beginning. I thought the original was missing some rap, and this fills it in nicely (another rapping remix of it: ZP Boy Wonder's "Touch You." Holler).

And (in case you missed it in the last post), the extended mix of Calvin Harris' latest:

I'm Not Alone (Extended Mix) - Calvin Harris
Definitely not urban, but ill all the same.

NEXT POST: Hopefully not an Re: Barney Rubble post; probably just a regular one. Also, a new Hard-Fi remix by... Axwell.

Re: Sweden Post

So my previous post on the Swedish House Mafia disappeared, and I have no idea why. If anyone knows anything about this, please let me know. UPDATE: I was able to recover all of the links, so enjoy. Sorry that the formatting is not as nice as usual.

TEXT OF POST (thanks to the e-mail subscription):

Vlkomnande till... Sweden

A little bit of explanation: the Swedish House Mafia is not post-minimal-breakbeat music from Sweden. I promise. It's actually a group of Swedish house DJ's: Sebastian Ingrosso, Steve Angello, and Axwell. It also used to include Eric Prydz (AKA Pryda. Don't worry, he's also going to be in this post) until he moved to London. All of their productions are upbeat house tracks - Eric Prydz was the one who dropped Call On Me - and they all have a similar style. Oh and they also love to get together in pairs and name themselves something else.

Also, keep up spreading the word. Interest in the blog is definitely picking up thanks to you guys. UPDATE: I fixed commenting so you don't need to be registered somehow to leave one.

My genre of the day:
Swedish House Mafia

What you need to be listening to:

I have to admit, this might as well be a Know Your Genre because all of these songs are older, but whatever, it's all good.

Tell Me Why - Supermode
A remix of Smalltown Boy by Bronski Beat by Steve Angello and Axwell (Supermode). No way I could do a post on these guys and not include it, this song is huge. Think Call On Me with 80's vocals.
Tell Me Why -
YouTube

Breathe (Instrumental) - Mode Hookers
A tune from Steve Angello and Sebastian Ingrosso (Mode Hookers). Starts off with a repetitive beat, but quickly drops off into sweeping strings. Worth it just for that bit.

Nice (Eric Prydz Radio Mix) - Duran Duran
A great remix from Prydz that injects a ton of energy into Duran Duran's original. Another note: all four of the Mafia are amazing remixers (just check out Axwell's remix of Hard-Fi's Hard To Beat or Steve Angello and Sebastian Ingrosso's remix of Hard-Fi's Suburban Knights).
Nice -
YouTube

Feel The Vibe (Instrumental Mix) - Axwell
Super house tune from Axwell, who probably makes the brightest sounding songs of the four. Made for clubbing on a beach.
Feel The Vibe -

AND

Nothing to do with the Swedish House Mafia, but...

I'm Not Alone (Extended Mix) - Calvin Harris
The real version of I'm Not Alone finally dropped. If you haven't heard it or downloaded it yet (see Fancy Some Euphoric? post in Feb.), do it now.

NEXT POST: May be a little more of a wait then usual. Maybe a normal post?

Ride The Groove

So I finally got around to it: Know Your Genre. This is going to be a feature where I give a few tunes that really sum up a lesser known genre (here at least) that's still ill. Still, as it's only a few songs, there will be a ton of others out there that you may like even more.

This post's theme? Drums 'n' Bass, which is a bit soulful with a fast backbeat. As the name suggests, it has a lot of bass, so listen with good speakers or headphones.

DRUMS 'N' BASS

Machine - Logistics
With a monster bassline, this is an adrenaline pumping song from Nu:Tone's little brother that Paul Oakenfold would probably approve of. The first of the offerings from Hospital Records in this post.

Machine - Download

Brief Encounter - High Contrast
Tight strings and an etheral short vocal from another of Hosptial Records' best.
Brief Encounter - YouTube
Brief Encounter - Download

Hanging Rock - London Elektricity
One of the best bass drops ever, period. London Elektricity rounds out the top 3 at Hospital Records.
Hanging Rock - YouTube

Hold Your Colour - Pendulum
The most recent big hit from one of the only live acts in drums 'n' bass. A bit of a rock feel combined with a good vocal. Not from Hospital Records, believe it or not.
Hold Your Colour - YouTube

And that random Calvin Harris remix I promised?

See The Light (Calvin Harris Vocal Mix) - The Hours
Absolutely nothing to do with drums 'n' bass, but just a feel good kind of song. Starts off a little slow, but picks up a bit once the vocal kicks in (listen through the song). As usual, Calvin Harris ends up making some wierd bits sound good.

NEXT POST: A normal post - French house and electro.

Fancy Some Euphoric?

I just figured how to use zshare. What that means is that I'll be able to upload my own copies of the songs instead of hunting around for download links for you guys. Hoo-ray for consistency! Unfortunately, I already hunted down some of the links for this post's songs, so suck it up.

Also, there are apparently a million and one ways to subscribe to the blog, not all of them requiring a Gmail account. Nah baby nah, just do it.

I'm Not Alone (Radio Rip) - Calvin Harris
So I got excited and put this one up before I even got halfway through with the post. Calvin Harris is back. This tune is "euphoric," "large," and "happy" according to the Radio 1 DJ who broke it (a bit ago, but bear with me I just started this blog). Sounds like my kind of woman. Or song. Whatever, this is a great, energetic, house-y song.
I'm Not Alone - Not YouTube, but Streaming Sound

In other news,

My genre of the day: I don't actually know what to call it. It's like indie rock with electronic stuff in it? I think it's called Electronica. Don't quote me on that.
Also, unlike last post, the tunes posted will actually have something to do with the genre of the day.

Oh and Know Your Genre? I promise I'll get around to that eventually.

What you need to be listening to:

Remember Love - Noze
If it's good enough for French electro wunderkind Surkin, it's good enough for me (he likes it). With a ridiculously catchy piano riff and french guys trying to speak english, how can you lose? Unfortunately my version is protected and the only other link I could find was to download the entire EP (all two songs). The one you want isn't the remix. UPDATE: The download link may or may not work. My b. Check it out on itunes.

Golden Cage - The Whitest Boy Alive
Kind of like a summery Franz Ferdinand, but better. The video is almost as sick as the song; gather some drunk buddies, put it on, and let the freak out begin. "Where'd the box go, bro??"
My version of this is also protected (what are the odds), so I put the link to the song in itunes.

She Loves Everybody - Chester French
Sounds like... I don't know, catchy indie rock? It's good, just take my word for it. I came across it on late, late, late night MTV of all places.

NEXT POST: Remixes, plus maybe Know Your Genre.
