The days of less frequent posting has begun, but I am planning on picking up the pace again as I get the time to check out a bunch of new songs. This post has a bit of retro-theme with some of the songs being true throwbacks, and the rest part of the new wave or retro sounding songs, courtesy of Aeroplane's mix CD for Mixmag.
Also, I just dropped a new track as BPM called "Next" check it out here: onlydjbpm
What you need to be listening to: I'll Be Around - Rappin' 4-Tay True old-school making use of the Spinners' "I'll Be Around." It sounds like something Lupe would put out now, but a little more real. I'll Be Around - YouTube
Kilometer (Aeroplane 'Italo 84' Mix) - Sebastien Tellier This is the first of two songs off of Aeroplane's ill mix CD: it is the well-hyped Kilometer mix that I mentioned on my post of the A-Trak remix. After hearing it in the mix, I couldn't resist putting it up. Definitely has the retro feel with a modern edge. Aeroplane does it again. Kilometer - YouTube
Lion (Bag Raiders Remix) - zZz The second of the songs off of the mix CD, this is a feel good remix from yet another great Australian electro act. Imagine the guitars from their Fun Punch replaced with a piano. Lion - YouTube
And a true throwback: Buddy - De La Soul + Native Tongues De La Soul with Q-Tip, Jungle Brothers, Queen Latifah, and Monie Love. It doesn't get much more back in the day than that.
Sorry about the delay in the post, I've been kind of busy as of late (new, kind of cheesy track in the works). That said, I've come across a few good tunes casually over the past week. For whatever reason, all but one of the items happen to involve A-Trak (the brother of one of Chromeo's members, Kanye's personal DJ, and one of the hottest DJ's right now) in some way. Definitely check out his blog, and his A-Trak TV vids.
France. The land of good food, and, surprisingly, good electro and house. The best example? It's home to Ed Banger records, the guys behind Justice and Daft Punk, as well as others like SebastiAn, DJ Mehdi, Mr. Oizo, Feadz, and Uffie. This post has a couple of songs from Ed Banger, but there are also a few from other labels as well.
By the way, If you're becoming a fan of the blog, spread the good word to your people. And if you have anything you want/like/dislike, drop a comment.
Okay. Not a genre. But it might as well be as the artists on their roll have a pretty distinct sound.
What you need to be listening to:
Encore (Human After All / Together/ Stardust - Music Sounds Better With You) - Daft Punk I was planning on putting a Daft Punk remix of a song that's a lot less known, but there was no way I could resist putting this on. Off of the Alive 2007 CD (their live album from that trippy Coachella performance), it builds from Human After All into the other songs (Together and the Stardust song are both from projects of Thomas Bangalter, who is one half of Daft Punk). Crazy, crazy drop; the second half is better, but it all builds into itself. Sound quality is a lot better than on the YouTube version, just download it. Encore - YouTube Encore - Download
Paris (ft. Au Revoir Simone) (Aeroplane Remix) - Friendly Fires Aeroplane is actually from Belgium but the songs called Paris and Belgium is really close to France, so cut me some slack. Plus, it's a legit song. Pretty laid back, but catchy and summery. Paris - YouTube Paris - Download
Discobitch (C'est Beau La Bourgeoisie) - Kylian Mash & Laurent Conrad Super popular house track in the land of the French that came to me by way of my mate in Switzerland who actually got me into electronic music in the first place (BIG holler). The song's a lot of fun and would definitely make a party go nuts. Don't judge the tune on it's video though. Discobitch - YouTube Discobitch - Download
Pop The Glock - Uffie Has Uffie (pic above) laying down vocals over a Feadz beat, straight out of Ed Banger. Ill use of a vocoder in the background and solid bass make for a just chilling kind of feel. Pop The Glock - YouTube Pop The Glock - Download
Classic song:
(Classic being used lightly here; it's from 2005) La Ritournelle - Sebastien Tellier A classic and chillout at it's best. A little emotional, kind of romantic, and pretty French sounding. It changes up a little with a vocal towards the middle, so listen through. YouTube quality is off, but I had to use this video because it matched my version (the video itself is not great either. I just haven't had good luck with YouTube in this post). La Ritournelle - YouTube La Ritournelle - Download
Next Post: The Swedish House Mafia... and the extended mix (non-radio rip) of Calvin Harris - I'm Not Alone. I'm looking at you Otega.
