Back In The Day Joint

The days of less frequent posting has begun, but I am planning on picking up the pace again as I get the time to check out a bunch of new songs. This post has a bit of retro-theme with some of the songs being true throwbacks, and the rest part of the new wave or retro sounding songs, courtesy of Aeroplane's mix CD for Mixmag.

Also, I just dropped a new track as BPM called "Next" check it out here: onlydjbpm

My genre of the day: Italo-disco

What you need to be listening to:

I'll Be Around - Rappin' 4-Tay

True old-school making use of the Spinners' "I'll Be Around." It sounds like something Lupe would put out now, but a little more real.
I'll Be Around - YouTube

Kilometer (Aeroplane 'Italo 84' Mix) - Sebastien Tellier
This is the first of two songs off of Aeroplane's ill mix CD: it is the well-hyped Kilometer mix that I mentioned on my post of the A-Trak remix. After hearing it in the mix, I couldn't resist putting it up. Definitely has the retro feel with a modern edge. Aeroplane does it again.
Kilometer - YouTube

Lion (Bag Raiders Remix) - zZz
The second of the songs off of the mix CD, this is a feel good remix from yet another great Australian electro act. Imagine the guitars from their Fun Punch replaced with a piano.
Lion - YouTube

And a true throwback:

Buddy - De La Soul + Native Tongues

De La Soul with Q-Tip, Jungle Brothers, Queen Latifah, and Monie Love. It doesn't get much more back in the day than that.

Can You Feel It?

Remember when Britney Spears was hot? Really hot (I couldn't resist the pic)? Even though those days are over, her new songs have really been picked up by the top remixers out there (see Bring The House Down post in April). Case in point, check out the Villains remix later in this post. Also, sorry about the lack of consistency in posting, I've just had a lot to do lately and a few gigs to keep me busy. I think I am going to move to a less frequent posting schedule (twice a week? weekly?) and just try to stuff each post; subscribe by e-mail to hear about a new post as soon as it drops. Also, I'm running out of good genres, so my genre of day is going to be on a break for a bit.

What you need to be listening to:

Circus (Villains Remix) - Britney Spears
Another solid remix from Villains, these guys get it done. It adds some catchy thump to the over-the-top original.
Circus - YouTube

Leave The World Behind (Barletta Edit) - Swedish House Mafia & Laidback Luke

I would move to Sweden to join these guys (definitely a requirement as they quasi-booted out the stellar Eric Prydz/Pryda for moving to London); it's hard to match their knack for monster house hits that they just keep pumping out, along with great remixes. This is a nice edit, that's been circulating the blogs (Hypemachine stream, look for the play button at the bottom right).
Leave The World Behind - Stream

Feel It - DJ Felli Fel Feat. T-Pain, Sean Paul, Flo Rida & Pitbull
This is just one of those thumping mainstream club songs that got me amped.
Feel It - YouTube

Also...

Holler at my boy Kemmik out of Cali who finally got a blog going. Check it out for his own beats; there's some good stuff there and I can see some fire from him once he gets going.

Speaking of fire from local peeps, ZP Boy Wonder dropped a new one for 4/20, check it out.

NEXT POST: Nope, no idea.

Bring The House Down

I'm going for a more multimedia feel (if you can't tell) to keep up the pace of the postings, given that I can't put up as many songs as before. That and making posts a little shorter (though apparently not this one). Still should be good though.

First up, something different and completely unrelated to the feel of the post:

Ministry of Sound - Clubbers Guide to 2009 (Australian Version?)
I normally don't get entire CD's but the Ministry of Sound series always seem to be worth it even if I get rid of over half the songs. Kind of a guilty pleasure? The songs are too big already to post, but here are some of the highlights for me on the CD (YouTube links). Huge range of style even outside of the ones included here (Fake Blood, Inpetto, Bag Raiders, etc.), check it out for yourself even if its just to see a few songs you missed out on (every song is definitely not going to be for everyone).
Human (Ocelot Remix) - The Killers
Everytime We Touch (Extended Mix) - David Guetta, Steve Angello, Jaochim Garraud, Sebastian Ingrosso, Chris Willis
Everything (Magik Johnson Vocal Mix) - P-Money feat. Vince Harder
Come Fly Away (Soha & Adam K Remix) - Benny Benassi

Need Me To Stay - Tommy Trash feat. Mr. Wilson

My genre of the day: D-Town Boogie (not a wiki)

On to the tracks.

What you need to be listening to:

If U Seek Amy (Crookers Toy Soldier Remix) - Britney Spears

This is the Milan boys' (see pic above) re-tool of Ms. Spears' new jam. Big bass and kicks add up to a slower version of the original.
If U Seek Amy - YouTube

Throwbackkk:

Classic, classic house tune. All the hallmarks of early house, it's straight up happy. 'Nuff said.
Promised Land - YouTube

Destroy This Trak

Sorry about the delay in the post, I've been kind of busy as of late (new, kind of cheesy track in the works). That said, I've come across a few good tunes casually over the past week. For whatever reason, all but one of the items happen to involve A-Trak (the brother of one of Chromeo's members, Kanye's personal DJ, and one of the hottest DJ's right now) in some way. Definitely check out his blog, and his A-Trak TV vids.

Also, again, links are in the song title.

My genre of the day: Whatever it is exactly that A-Trak makes

What you need to be listening to:

I Poke Her Face (feat. Kanye West, Common, Lady GaGa & A-Trak) - Kid Cudi
This is a funny track from Cudi with a lot of good people laying it down for him. He'll be playing in Hanover, NH at Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity in May; check him out (I will probably be there; dates and confirmation coming).
I Poke Her Face - YouTube

Kilometer (A-Trak Dub Mix) - Sebastien Tellier

This mix has been getting almost as much hype as the Aeroplane (check out their remix of Friendly Fires; see Ca C'est Paris post in March) remix of the song. Throws in some high strings and energy into the mix.
Kilometer - YouTube

I Found You / Get Money Kids (Axwell vs. Pase Rock) - Emynd

Came to me by way of my boy DJ Straus (holler, check out his new contest mash-up of Love Song with Ratatat), it adds Pase Rock's flow to an upbeat house riff from the Swedish House Mafia's Axwell. Unfortunately, the only listen link is through Hype Machine of all places. Just look for the play button.
I Found You - Hype Machine

Finally,

One of A-Traks vids with Steve Angello (also of the Swedish House Mafia) where they make gypsy techno wedding music. I thought it was kind of funny.

NEXT POST: Who knows? But definitely a new Crookers remix.
